Technological potential / Research

Baesweiler is situated in the heart of the university and research landscape in the Technology Region Aachen. This includes of course the numerous renowned R & D departments of the companies based in the region. The academies and research institutes offer besides high-qualified personnel also long-term successful experiences in entrepreneurial co-operations.

The ITS Service-Team disposes of long-term, close contacts to the renowned university and research institutes of the Aachen region that can be used by the Baesweiler-based companies.

This direct connection to university and research partners is an important criterion for the location Baesweiler particularly for many international companies and those from other parts of Germany.

The RWTH Aachen University with more than 9 faculties and about 30,000 students is one of the biggest universities in Europe. The extremely wide pallet of study courses ranges from classic Humanities and Natural Sciences to highly innovative sectors such as Production Engineering and Laser Technology, Plastics Technology, Information Technohttp://www.its-center.de/typo3/backend.phplogy and Multimedia as well as Life Sciences. Since a few years Baesweiler is considered to be an insiders’ tip for the start-ups among the RWTH-scientists. The location is pleased about several spin-offs from different institutes.

The University of Applied Sciences Aachen (FH Aachen) - with more than 11,000 students and about 230 professors, 290 assistant lectures as well as 700 employees in 10 faculties - is one of the biggest universities of applied sciences in Germany.
The main emphasis of the FH Aachen is in the topics Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Engineering.
Furthermore, the FH Aachen works together with more than 80 partners in Europe as well as with 40 non-European partners, so that intensive international interrelations emanate from the FH Aachen.

The research center Jülich (FZ Jülich) disposes of 9 research institutes with 53 faculties. The key technologies are in the domains Health, Energy and Environment as well as Information Technology – this task characterizes the profile of the research center Jülich. With about 5,000 employees the FZ Jülich, member of the Helmholtz Association, ranks among the big research centers in Europe.

Three institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft are based in the technologic location Aachen: The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT), the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology (IME). On a total of 23,000 m² effective space, including laboratories and production halls, about 760 employees develop technologies of the future. Thus, the competitiveness of large-scale and medium-sized enterprises from different branches, as for example from the Automobile Industry, the Medical and the Aviation Technology, is strengthened.
